A Christmas Carol with C99

Image
Joy to the world the Lord had come. Let earth receive her king ! We Wish you all a Merry Christmas and to all a Happy New Year  As the year draws to a close and we rejoice for the birth of our Lord savior Jesus Christ, the participants from C99 got together to give thanks for the great blessings of friendships that we received following our CHOICE weekend. And what better way to do it than to spread that joy by singing carols in some of our fellow C99 houses. We were also lucky enough to be joined by two participants from C100 and a special guest from Singapore. Quick rehearsal outside the parish of Assumption. Shhhh, sing softly or we might awake the bay-bee.  First on our list was the beautiful home of Ivy Pat. We were warmly greeted by Ivy's mum who was quick to offer us some of her homemade cookies (some of which Ivy claimed to have made herself).   Ivy's mom's warm presence and humble nature had us all glowing in delight. As finished singing ou...

An open letter to Jesus - Happy birthday!

Image
Dear Jesus, Happy birthday! Thank you for coming down to be present among us. Your birth on earth gives us hope. We are a fallen race but today your light has come into this world and into our hearts and thus we are saved. In serving the CHOICE programme, it is our human nature that caused us to fail you and our fellow brothers and sisters. Help us, the CHOICE team to be born again in your grace that we may forgive those who have hurt us. Renew our zeal to serve you. Keep us humble, obedient and kind that we can always follow in your footsteps.  Stir our hearts to love all mankind and to always love you. Sincerely, All members of CHOICE KL A blessed Christmas to all!!

Gospel Alive #3 - The joy of the Lord is my strength

Image
John said, 'I am, as Isaiah prophesied: A voice of one that cries in the desert: Prepare a way for the Lord. Make his paths straight!' - Gospel, John 1:23 Many people today search for pleasures in life to make them happy, but find that it does not bring them joy. Some do not even know why they are unhappy or disconnected. When God is not at the centre, we lose our purpose in life. We lose this Joy! For St John the baptist, his conviction to prepare the way derives from God: "The Joy of the Lord is my strength" Joy is a commitment. In our family/marriage/relationship/ministry, to have joy in each other requires effort on our part to communicate with each other. If our houses are like war-zones breeding with strive and conflict, how can we have joy. Then we come to church, and it is difficult to maintain this joyful facade even if we try. We need to forgive one another at home, to be committed and persistent in communicating and talking to one another. ...

CEKL99 M.A.D Project 2017

Image
It is our vocation to set people’s hearts ablaze, to do what the Son of God did, who came to light a fire on earth in order to set it ablaze with His love. - Frédéric Ozanam   Rachel from C99 really got the kids going with some super fun games On November 26  we set out together once again to share the mad love of Jesus Christ. This M.A.D project was initiated by the batch of C99 in collaboration with the Bethel Community Centre in PJ. Together we had the opportunity to spend some quality time with the kids at Rumah Ozanam and also contribute some daily essentials.  Assembly point at the wonderful Bethel Community Centre  Funds and supplies were already collected beforehand and were promptly loaded up into the van to be delivered. Joseph from C99 putting Fr. Edwin through a vigorous weight lifting routine.    The initial group photo taken proved to be the most awkward group photo ever produced in recent Choice history. ...

CHOICE centenary weekend thanksgiving dinner

Image
We are companions on a journey. Breaking bread and sharing life.... CHOICE is proud to host our centenary weekend thanksgiving dinner for all CHOICEes from the inaugural weekend till its 100th instalment. If you have any known affiliation to CHOICE through its 36th years of formation, please do join us in celebration of this momentous event. The following are the testimonies of our fellow CHOICEes...  We are companions on a journey. Breaking bread and sharing life... Indeed, the above lines from a song described the group of friends I have made since I started meeting them a few at a time beginning from 1998. We met in CHOICE, a singles adult programme. As we served together, we grew from singles to married couples (a few of us found our spouses from Choice, though not all) and now families. Yet, we still made a point to at least meet once a year as a big group with all our children or as small groups among just the wives or the husbands. We were so excited to f...

C99 Getaway + Shyan Surprise Birthday Party The C99 bunch On November 18 these gorgeous, outrageous and contagious group of souls gathered in a weekend get together plus birthday surprise. The location was at the luxury Setia Sky Residences KLCC, which provided breathtaking views of the KL city skyline. Good to have Kevin back after a long term hiatus The day started out with some dipping in the pool followed by a trip back to the suite to surprise a very surprised C99 participant, Miss Shyan. An artist impression of what transpired during Shyan's birthday surprise. Everyone was pretty much way too surprised to take any pictures at that moment. Gorgeous cake baked with love by Ivy from C99 After gobbling up slices of pizzas, the bunch return downstairs to the pool for a little karaoke practice which turned into a vocal extravaganza. Few did surprise us all with their flawless vocal renditions while others were told that quitting their day jobs to pu...

Listening says "You matter to me"

Image
Listening is a lost art these days. We don’t listen well and we aren’t used to being listened to. When Job was in great pain, his friends were “miserable comforters” (Job 16:2), for he complained: “Oh, that I had someone to hear me!” (Job 31:35). Job was not alone in his longing. We all want to be heard and listening is an effective way of helping others. Listening says, “You matter to me.” When you fidget, glance at your watch and appear to be rushed - you’re not listening. When you fail to maintain eye contact - you’re not listening. When you don’t ask follow-up questions - you’re not listening. Yes. Listening is hard work and most of us are unwilling to set aside our own  timetable and tendency to hurry on to our next destination. May you and I, by God’s grace acquire a listening ear. Abba! Father!

Image
When we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. - Romans 8:15-17 St Paul is making clear to us that we are children of God, just as Christ was God's son. Because of Christ with can call God "Abba", which is like saying "papa". Christ, through his death and resurrection, made it possible for each of us to have an intimate relationship with God and to inherit all that Jesus inherited. How is your faith enriched by knowing that you can call God Abba or Papa? What does it say to you about Christ's love and his desire to be your brother? Let us pray Abba, papa, Jesus taught us that we are your children and that you desire a close and intimate relationship with us. Help us to remember this when we approach you. Amen Taken from: 10 minut...

Queen of Holy Rosary

Image
The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary.  The best way to celebrate the Month of the Holy Rosary is, of course, to pray the rosary daily. Hence Choicees were also geared up for Rosary at Assumption's Church.         Guess who made the special appearances from C100?? Our in house pharmacist, Cecilia  from C100 came from Klang, despite the bad traffic and heavy rain. J ason Joseph too surprised us by showing up as we did not see his name in the attendee's list!!!        The Holy Rosary was led by our Dr.John and Lincoln. We used mobile app named as "Laudate" to pray rosary since we weren't able to collect the books from Ray's place.  It was a wonderful evening to pray together with Choice Family. Let's hope that we will continue to pray rosary together with Choice family, even after the month of October 😂           Then after...

Reflection - St Ignatius of Loyola

Image
'They who are engaged with the salvation of their neighbor, will gain more by a humble modesty than by an authoritative manner, and will gain victory sooner in retreat than in combat.' - St. Ignatius of Loyola Let us pray: Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous; teach me to serve You as You deserve; to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labour and not to ask for reward save that of knowing I am doing Your Will.
