Reflection #1

What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his own immortal soul Matthew 16:26 Mark 8:36 Luke 9:25 I noticed that I sometimes get distracted with what this world has to offer. How many of us try to seek the pleasures of life, working hard for one material thing or another. My guilty pleasure is entertainment after a hard day at work. I even know of a person who went as far as to say that the catholic church is too rigid and we should be free to take whatever the world gives us, to do whatever makes us happy. While it is also essential to meet my material needs, is God still in the centre? Have we lost our faith? If He loves us so much, why did He have to give us the pandemic which had destroyed our normal way of life? Or should we take this time as an opportunity instead? Whatever free time we have now, instead of trying to entertain ourselves, why don’t we work on preparing our soul for God. No matter what we have accomplished, only our immortal soul matters...

The Top 8 Signs of an Emotionally Unhealthy Christian

Image
by Pete Scazzero A number of years ago I had to face the fact that I would never grow  spiritually  beyond my level of health  emotionally . I had many unhealthy patterns of thought and behavior that had dug ruts in my soul, and they were wreaking havoc in my personal life and in the church I was leading. The reality was that my discipleship and spirituality had not touched a number of deep internal wounds and sin patterns. I was stuck at an immature level of spiritual and emotional development. And my way of living the Christian life was not transforming the deep places in my life. In short order, here are the top eight signs that I was an emotionally  unhealthy  Christian: Image Credit: ©Unsplash 1. Using God to Run from God I tend to create a great deal of “God-activity” in order to avoid difficult areas in my life God wants to change. I know I’m in trouble when I . . . - Pray about God doing my will, not about me su...

All sins can be forgiven except one

Image
This particular bible verse caught my eye today and I thought of sharing: "So I tell you, every sin and blasphemy can be forgiven--except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which will never be forgiven." Matthew 12:31,  Mark 3:28-29, Luke 12:10 So what is actually blasphemy against the Holy Spirit? In Catholic teaching there are six sins that blaspheme against the Holy Spirit. They are: Despair (believing that one's evil is beyond God's forgiveness); Presumption (glory without merit, that is, hope of salvation without keeping the Commandments, or expectation of pardon for sin without repentance) Envying the goodness of another (sadness or repining at another's growth in virtue and perfection); Obstinacy in sin (willful persisting in wickedness, and running on from sin to sin, after sufficient instructions and admonition); Final impenitence (to die without either confession or contrition for our sins); Impugning the known truth (to argue agai...

The following prayers are dedicated to our CHOICEES and their loved ones who are currently sick and are in need of help.

Choice Chicken Soup - Yum2!

Image
Greetings to all Choicees. I just wanted to share a story I have recently heard... A protestant pastor was talking to a catholic priest one day and he was very curious about the Eucharist. The pastor who was a very devout man of God asked the Catholic priest if he really believed the teachings of the catholic church that the Host was the real body and blood of Christ and not just a symbol. The priest was puzzled at this question and inquired further... The pastor then said that, if he were the one who believed in the real presence, by now he would be crawling up the aisle to receive GOD. I feel that sometimes the way we conduct ourselves in mass, like being indifferent, distracted and failing to show our reverence, it is as if we don't truly believe that God is really present in the Eucharist. I am equally guilty of denying God like Peter did 3 times before the rooster crowed. Everything becomes just like a lip service. We need to prepare ourselves thoroughly, body, min...

Choice 101 service team formation + testimonies

Image
As we prepare ourselves to reach out to Gambang, Pahang on the 13 th -15 th April, Father Gregory held a mini formation retreat for us. We started off with praise and worship followed by a prayer for C101. Big Ray introduced to us what choice is all about and how large we actually are as a community. Choice is not an isolated KL group but actually involves many states and languages and even countries like Choice Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong and recently formed Choice groups of Korea and Sri Lanka. We also have Choice National and Choice Asia meet every few years to discuss the direction and challenges faces in CHOICE. Next was Father Gregory Chan’s formation. He started off with Lazarus and the rich man. The rich man was only thinking of himself until death and failed to reach out to others. Only in hell was he thinking of his brothers and he wanted to warn them to change their attitude lest they fall into the same trap. However,  it was already too late. Therefore, Father...

Gospel alive #4 - No to Kiasuness

Image
Do not compare yourself to another person. You will unintentionally rank yourself before others and subsequently live in fear of loosing out. Being Kiasu is being scared to lose Rather, thank God and use the available gifts and talents he has given you, no matter how small or little it is. Then He will reward you many times over. ~ excerpts from Fr Greg's homily In the mean time I found this online: 😂😂😁😁

A student's prayer

My precious Lord, I thank you for helping me through this one year. In that period of uncertainty, despair and distress you had guided me. You answered when I call. Your timing is perfect and true. You touch the hearts of those who are above me and gave me good mentors to set me on the correct path. You know the contents of my heart. I am nothing without You. I will be loss without You. Thank you for your servant St Joseph of Cupertino who is so close to your sacred heart, for interceding from heaven. I also thank blessed St Anthony for being the protector of my studies. Sacred Head of Jesus, enlighten me with your wisdom, like You had bestowed upon your servant King Solomon. Amen Prayer to St. Joseph of Cupertino O St. Joseph of Cupertino who by your prayer obtained from God to be asked at your examination, the only preposition you knew. Grant that I may like you succeed in the (here mention the name of Examination) examination. In return I promise to make you known and caus...

An open letter to Jesus - Happy birthday!

Image
Dear Jesus, Happy birthday! Thank you for coming down to be present among us. Your birth on earth gives us hope. We are a fallen race but today your light has come into this world and into our hearts and thus we are saved. In serving the CHOICE programme, it is our human nature that caused us to fail you and our fellow brothers and sisters. Help us, the CHOICE team to be born again in your grace that we may forgive those who have hurt us. Renew our zeal to serve you. Keep us humble, obedient and kind that we can always follow in your footsteps.  Stir our hearts to love all mankind and to always love you. Sincerely, All members of CHOICE KL A blessed Christmas to all!!

Gospel Alive #3 - The joy of the Lord is my strength

Image
John said, 'I am, as Isaiah prophesied: A voice of one that cries in the desert: Prepare a way for the Lord. Make his paths straight!' - Gospel, John 1:23 Many people today search for pleasures in life to make them happy, but find that it does not bring them joy. Some do not even know why they are unhappy or disconnected. When God is not at the centre, we lose our purpose in life. We lose this Joy! For St John the baptist, his conviction to prepare the way derives from God: "The Joy of the Lord is my strength" Joy is a commitment. In our family/marriage/relationship/ministry, to have joy in each other requires effort on our part to communicate with each other. If our houses are like war-zones breeding with strive and conflict, how can we have joy. Then we come to church, and it is difficult to maintain this joyful facade even if we try. We need to forgive one another at home, to be committed and persistent in communicating and talking to one another. ...

Blessed All Saints Day!

Listening says "You matter to me"

Image
Listening is a lost art these days. We don’t listen well and we aren’t used to being listened to. When Job was in great pain, his friends were “miserable comforters” (Job 16:2), for he complained: “Oh, that I had someone to hear me!” (Job 31:35). Job was not alone in his longing. We all want to be heard and listening is an effective way of helping others. Listening says, “You matter to me.” When you fidget, glance at your watch and appear to be rushed - you’re not listening. When you fail to maintain eye contact - you’re not listening. When you don’t ask follow-up questions - you’re not listening. Yes. Listening is hard work and most of us are unwilling to set aside our own  timetable and tendency to hurry on to our next destination. May you and I, by God’s grace acquire a listening ear. Abba! Father!

Image
When we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. - Romans 8:15-17 St Paul is making clear to us that we are children of God, just as Christ was God's son. Because of Christ with can call God "Abba", which is like saying "papa". Christ, through his death and resurrection, made it possible for each of us to have an intimate relationship with God and to inherit all that Jesus inherited. How is your faith enriched by knowing that you can call God Abba or Papa? What does it say to you about Christ's love and his desire to be your brother? Let us pray Abba, papa, Jesus taught us that we are your children and that you desire a close and intimate relationship with us. Help us to remember this when we approach you. Amen Taken from: 10 minut...

Queen of Holy Rosary

Image
The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary.  The best way to celebrate the Month of the Holy Rosary is, of course, to pray the rosary daily. Hence Choicees were also geared up for Rosary at Assumption's Church.         Guess who made the special appearances from C100?? Our in house pharmacist, Cecilia  from C100 came from Klang, despite the bad traffic and heavy rain. J ason Joseph too surprised us by showing up as we did not see his name in the attendee's list!!!        The Holy Rosary was led by our Dr.John and Lincoln. We used mobile app named as "Laudate" to pray rosary since we weren't able to collect the books from Ray's place.  It was a wonderful evening to pray together with Choice Family. Let's hope that we will continue to pray rosary together with Choice family, even after the month of October 😂           Then after...

Reflection - St Ignatius of Loyola

Image
'They who are engaged with the salvation of their neighbor, will gain more by a humble modesty than by an authoritative manner, and will gain victory sooner in retreat than in combat.' - St. Ignatius of Loyola Let us pray: Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous; teach me to serve You as You deserve; to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labour and not to ask for reward save that of knowing I am doing Your Will.

DOA ROSARIO

Image
TIGA PULUH TIGA KUTIPAN PARA KUDUS TENTANG DOA ROSARIO 1.

CEKL 100 Thanksgiving prayer

Image
Heavenly Father, How glorious and wonderful are your blessings and healing over us all. You are truly God of our salvation and at the same time, our rest in times of challenges. Have mercy on us, we pray, for our weaknesses, failures and shortcomings; intentional and unintentional. The CEKL100 weekend has been an excellent success. We glorify Your name, Oh Lord. You have used us to be your ambassadors of Your kingdom. All glory, honour and praise goes to You. Thank you, Lord for opening the hearts and minds of the participants, breaking the walls that block and allowing them to feel your loving presence throughout the weekend. As we continue to journey with these new Choicees, we pray that you guide us to do the what is right in your eyes. To unite us with passion for Your love. To teach us to forgive as you forgave. To increase our willingness to do what is just. And to turn back to you when we stray far. To err is human and to forgive is divine. We long to be one with You, Jesu...

CHOICE KL 100th Weekend! - 22nd to 24th September 2017

Image
Dear team.  As we prepare the final hours for the weekend. I would like to share with you from today's reading As we labour this CHOICE 100 weekend for our Lord Jesus, do take a minute to reflect on this reading. Reading 1, Ephesians 4:1-7, 11-13 1 I, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you therefore to lead a life worthy of the vocation to which you were called. 2 With all humility and gentleness, and with patience, support each other in love. 3 Take every care to preserve the unity of the Spirit by the peace that binds you together. 4 There is one Body, one Spirit, just as one hope is the goal of your calling by God. 5 There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 and one God and Father of all, over all, through all and within all. 7 On each one of us God's favour has been bestowed in whatever way Christ allotted it. 11 And to some, his 'gift' was that they should be apostles; to some prophets; to some, evangelists; to some, pastors and teac...

Gospel Alive #2 - How many times should I forgive?

Image
Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time - 17 September 2017 Do you still remember what was last Sunday's gospel reading?  It was basically about our friend St. Peter asking Jesus on our behalf for some exam tips eh, I mean spiritual Christian life tips to go to heaven.... Seven times cukup ah Brother?.. can la.. Then Jesus say... sorry brother, tak cukup la.. Must be 70x7 times. Huh.. means 70x7= 490 times ah for each person? means what? How la liddat?  Haiyo.. want to forgive 1 time also so susah d. 70 times 7 means like forever la kena forgive. Then Jesus cerita a parable to make us faham sikit and to lessen our sakit hati. Forgiving people who have hurt or wronged us is not easy. We feel tempted to give them the hand God has forgiven our biggest debts when He died for us on the cross. However, despite what God has done for us, when our brother owes us stuff, we jump left right and centre with foam in our mouths What Jesus is saying to us t...
